Eh... I can't lie, I don't like this twist. I get what they were going for, but it doesn't work in my opinion because we literally only met Vecna this season. He was cool and scary, sure, but not "it was him all along" material. It just totally brings down the eldritch and unknowable factor the Mind Flayer had before this. Now, Vecna/Henry Creel being 001? Genius, I loved that twist. It was a fantastic conclusion to a mystery that was never really a mystery in the show, but that fans had endlessly speculated on. But I think it would've been better had they just kept Vecna a general or lieutenant of the Mind Flayer (as Dustin had suggested) and made him a seasonal villain, especially since the climax of the season would set up his death perfectly; he is killed, but in doing so, succeeds in his goal to open the world to the Mind Flayer and the Upside Down. I don't know, I guess I just find it extremely lackluster that this _thing_ that none of us really quite understood or knew much about just ended up being someone's self-insert and, to be honest, a pretty generic motivation compared to what was before assumed to be an unknowable motive. Especially since, again, we literally only met Vecna _this season._

I'm so happy that the mind flayer was the one who was really in control all this time. People after this scene tought that vecna created the flayer and he controlled it. Which is now proven false because of the new st stageplay about vecna. It shows that the mind flayer technically gave vecna his powers.

SPOILERS, Vecna doesn't create the Mind Flayer, but rather becomes one with it. I watched The First Shadow in the West End today (a canon stageplay about Vecna's backstory) and they confirmed he didn't create the Mind Flayer. It is suggested the Mind Flayer is possessing him as he is mentally broken about how much of his cruel use of his powers is done by himself Vs "him" who he warns the other characters about who Henry - later Vecna, fears hurting. He fears "him" - the Mind Flayer. Ever since Henry encountered the Upside Down, he was corrupted and is shown to be possessed by it causing his powers. Some of his hurtful deeds are in fact caused by himself such as accidentally killing a cat thinking it was a dream, but he later does appear to be possessed by a much more powerful, evil entity - the mind flayer. After the cat, he kills multiple animals but it's not shown whether that was him or if he was being possessed, and how many of these incidents he knew were dreams. When it comes to killing humans however, he is possessed by the Mind Flayer. In the end, this breaks him and he is essentially both Henry and the Mind Flayer, accepting both parts and assuming the evil, sadistic character in the series we know.

I believe that the mind flayer was just a thoughtless hive mind with no true sentience Until 001 entered their realm and gave the mind flayer sentience by just sheerly interacting with it Kinda like at the beginning of 2001 space odyssey when the apes touched the obelisk They had never once in their lives witnessed something that was created intelligently and it awoken something inside like a light bulb moment and then it suddenly all made sense for them They just needed that slight push and that is what i believe 001 did to those creatures The mind flayer was always connected to all the other upside-down creatures but never intelligently until they met 001 So in season 3 when 11 speaks with the mind flayer posing as billy i truly believe that was the mind flayer alone speaking to her not vecna I think vecna and the mind flayer (although connected psychically) are separate entities entirely that just both have a mutual benefit from each other's goals

Basically the mind flayer was created by a delusional sociopath with an affinity for spiders.

The upside down was just a place, just a place, and the mind flayer was its brain. Vecna gave it shape and his motive but he had no way of affecting the "rightside up".... Until 11 opened the gate that shaped the upside down into a reflection of the right-side up and then the series begins with the demogorgon

this happened to me once (technically.) so me, my former crush, and our friend were walking when our friend hit my crush with her sleeve from her jacket and my crush’s eye turned red. our friend apologized and my crush, as a way of forgiving her, kissed her hand right in front of me. it was heartbreaking, but i’m never complaining about that again.
